Parent Review of Teach Me To Talk the DVD for Toddler with Hearing Loss

“I’m a parent of a 3 year old who has hearing loss and wears hearing aids in both ears, only verbalizes sounds, uses some signs and PECs. I have found Laura Mize’s Teach Me to Talk instructional DVD to be most helpful in our “at home” therapy!  Even though our daughter has hearing impairments, Laura’s techniques are very appropriate.  The reason this DVD works is simple: it changes the parent’s behavior in order to change the child’s behavior.  After watching the DVD, I realized that at home therapy can and should be FUN for the child AND the parent!  The professional speech and hearing therapies we attend are definitely indispensable, but Laura gave me the skills to carry on therapy throughout the day instead of just at our weekly sessions.   

After implementing the techniques in Teach Me to Talk, my daughter became more socially engaged with me during our at home therapy times. For example, being playful and silly as the DVD suggests captures my daughter’s attention despite her hearing issues.  She’s having fun with Mama and so she wants to try to communicate!  It’s an empowering feeling to help contribute to my daughter’s communication success.  As for the quality of the DVD content, Laura has a delightful personality and explains the therapy techniques in an easy to understand manner.  I look forward to seeing what other speech delay issues Laura tackles in her other DVDs Thank you, Laura for your obvious dedication to children and the encouragement you offer parents!”
