SUMMARY OF BOTH DAYS

DAY 1  Early Speech-Language Development: Taking Theory to the Floor

Do you work with toddlers? Then this course is for you! SLP CEU courses designed for birth to 3 SLPs!

Most professionals are quite knowledgeable in various theories for early speech- language development, but may lack developmentally-appropriate methods for implementing these strategies with our youngest clients. This conference is designed to help professionals who work with toddlers ages birth to 3 determine effective  treatment methods and materials to use when working with this niche population.

This conference will focus on TREATMENT and not assessment since most professionals are competent in determining eligibility according to their own program guidelines. Many conferences emphasize diagnostic information leaving therapists thinking at the end of the day, “I know when a kid qualifies… but I need new ideas for therapy!” The focus of this one-day seminar will be to learn to prioritize goals for working with young children with speech-language delays due to a variety of disorders including autism spectrum disorders, apraxia, phonological disorder, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, sensory processing disorder, and prematurity. Using a simple treatment hierarchy, we can determine where to start to treat specific deficits in the key areas which affect acquisition of age-appropriate communication skills. You’ll leave with many new, FUN treatment ideas for your youngest clients.

This course is offered for 0.7 ASHA CEUs (Intermediate level, Professional area).

DAY 2  Building Verbal Imitation in Toddlers

Do you want a fresh look at expressive treatment strategies? Join me!

Imitation is the core skill most late talkers haven’t yet mastered. In this fast-paced, half day conference, you’ll learn how to teach toddlers with developmental delays to talk using science-backed strategies which emphasize imitation as the KEY component. This method delivers a practical framework for knowing where to begin work with a late talking child, provides ideas for what to try when a young child’s progress stalls, and can serve as your new approach when your standard methods don’t seem to be adequate for a particular child’s issues.

You’ll learn a step-by-step process for moving children forward with expressive language. More importantly, you’ll understand what prerequisite skills a child should have mastered before moving on to the next level and how to prevent a child from going weeks or months without seeing any measurable progress in expressive language. Because troubleshooting is a major part of any treatment plan, you’ll also receive suggestions for what to try when a child seems to be “stuck” at any particular point in therapy.

This course is essential information for all early intervention professionals who work in programs that emphasize family training. Laura’s simple, straight-forward approach is easy for therapists to teach parents to use during familiar play-based activities and daily routines at home. Often SLPs and other therapists aren’t sure how to explain what we do so that parents understand and are able to carry over successes. Laura’s practical style will fill in that gap .

This course is offered for 0.45 ASHA CEUs (Intermediate level, Professional area).
