Easter Circle Time Activity

If you’re working with small groups of toddlers and preschoolers, I’m sure you’re always on the look out for a cute circle time activity related to the holiday. Actually, I use these routines with individual children too with good results!

Here’s my favorite that can be adapted for larger and smaller groups:

Materials: Gather a few plastic Easter eggs and an Easter basket or bucket.

How to Play and What to Say: Sit on the floor in a circle. Place the Easter container in the middle of the circle. Hold an egg and tell the children you’re going to play a game. Pass the egg from person to person around the circle as you sing to the tune of “Frere Jacques:”

“Pass the egg. Pass the egg.

All around. All around.

Easter is coming. Easter is coming.

To our town. To our town.”

The child who is holding the egg at the end of the song gets to place the egg in the basket. Repeat until every child has had a chance to place an egg in the basket.

Activity Variations: Teach new vocabulary by using other items related to Easter such as a bunny, a carrot, a smaller Easter basket, etc…

Or if you don’t celebrate Easter, try it with any spring-related material – like a flower – or even something very generic like a ball. This game is such a winner with toddlers that I play it year-round just changing the materials and words to fit the season. Now, I hope you will too!
