Therapy Tip of The Week
Watch our FREE Therapy Tip of the Week video series for ideas for parents and professionals who work with toddlers and young preschoolers with language delays.
Before we can change a child, we often must change ourselves first! This means that we need to adjust the things we do before we can expect any improvements.
Watch the videos for effective strategies, activities, and tweaks you can make to help your own child (or a whole caseload of little ones) learn to understand and use words.

Let's Talk About Talking
Teach Me To Talk & Play Videos
Speech-language therapy videos for parents, caregivers, and professionals.
Hi! I'm pediatric speech-language Laura Mize, M.S., CCC-SLP of teachmetotalk.com. Is your child a late talker? I can help! There are 2 great ways to use these speech therapy videos. For adults... parents and therapists can watch to get ideas for how to facilitate language development during one-on-one play with toddlers. In other words, you'll learn what to say and how to play! This is EXACTLY what I do during speech therapy sessions, so you can rest assured that you are using evidence-based practice with lots of repetition of key words, modeling, expectant waiting, and a focus on receptive language (understanding what words mean) as well as expressive language (repeating sounds, using gestures, and imitating early words to label, comment, respond, and request, etc...) For kids... little ones can watch too, and hopefully, begin to imitate and talk! It's even better when you watch WITH them and encourage them to imitate my gestures (like clapping, pointing, and waving), play sounds, and early words.
Other evidence-based concepts used are videos that simulate real objects during real-life activities (like playing with toys) - not watching cartoons with adult-like dialogue. We also use one camera shots that simulate a real-life point of view - there are no quick takes with special editing that promotes scan and shift behaviors, a big "no-no" for busy kids with short attention spans! We also short videos so that kids aren't glued to a screen for more than 10 to 15 minutes at a time. Another great way to use videos is to help a child develop play skills. Watch the video together and use the same kinds of ideas with similar toys. Subscribe to our channel and look for the Teach Me To Talk and Play playlists for additional ideas and videos! Thanks so much for watching!
